Melodic is a conceptual publication magazine focusing on rap music and how it has evolved throughout the past few decades. With the effects of digital music streaming and an interview with American rapper, Kendrick Lamar, Melodic dives deep into hip-hop's history and the major influences who were responsible for the breakthrough of rap.

PROCESS
I started this project off by writing out eight different concept statements to come up with a fitting name or title for my magazine. Each statement includes a title explaining why that specific title is fitting for its respective theme and subject matter.

After some consideration I finalized that the title of my rap-focused publication would be Melodic. With my title chosen, my next focus was to create a word mark for Melodic. I started sketching and ideating as my first round of sketches are shown here below:

Sketch 2
When I felt comfortable with my sketches I decided it was time to start creating these digitally. I had a pretty clear idea of the direction I was heading in and created these iterations below for my next round:

Iteration 6
Considering the iterations I created above, I felt as if these word marks below were the strongest. At first, I was going to move forward with the iteration to the left. However, with a simple rounding of the edges, the entire feel of the word mark changed for the better as I ended up moving forward with the one shown here below to the right.

Iteration 8
With my word mark finalized in black & white, I continued to progress it with the addition of color. Show here is my finished word mark:

With my word mark complete. I next created a final concept statement summarizing Melodic. Additionally, I used articles written by Grant Rinder and Zach O' Malley Greenburg to ultimately design this magazine. Included in the design is a magazine cover, table of contents, and four separate spreads.
